A Part of Rogersville Since 1923.

Price Public Elementary School began in 1868 when Alexander Fain, Jordan Netherland, Albert Jones, and Nathaniel Mitchell bought the land and built the two-room log building dedicated to educating African American children.
The current brick structure, built in 1923, replaced the original building and served as a school for grades 1- 8 until 1958, when the Price Public transferred its students to Swift High School.

Remembering Swift

Swift Memorial College was founded in 1883 by the Rev. Dr. William Henderson Franklin of Knoxville, the first black graduate of Maryville College. The school was named for the Rev. Elijah E. Swift, president of Board of Missions for Freedmen. Swift College served the area until 1955 when it was converted to a public high school. In 1963 the students of Swift High School were integrated into the Hawkins County public school system.
